April 16 UpdateWe were able to open up the trip for additional registrations. If you register after April 16, please pay immediately via PayPal. Also, see below for the refund policy.Join us for a weekend in Hot Springs, NC. Get ready for an adventure filled with llama trekking, camping and the Hot Springs hot tubs! "Come to where Mother Nature waved her magical wand and created one of the most natural of all wonders, Natural Hot Mineral Waters. Heated deep within the earth, these crystal clear carbonated waters are world famous for their mineral content and legendary healing powers. Hot Springs Resort pipes these waters to modern outdoor Jacuzzi type hot tubs that are drained and sanitized after each use." Also enjoy a wonderful "hiking with Llamas" experience! Hikers will have a fluffy clean llama to lead (not ride!), which will carry all food, gear and supplies for you! Have fun learning all about llamas and experiencing a hike with this unique animal. You will fall in "Llama-Llove"! Friday- Arrive in the evening and set up tents. We have one group site and three primitive sites located off the beautiful French Broad River so get ready for some splashing around! Don't worry, even though the sites are primitive, we will still have restrooms and showers within walking distance. Site numbers TBA. Each site will accommodate from four to six tents. PLEASE bring your smaller tents to make room for the group. There is a certain amount of space per site. We have the Hot Springs hot tubs reserved Friday night at 9:15-10:15pm. Saturday- 9:30am departure for our 5-6 miles llama trek in the mountains Be prepared to drive anywhere from 45 minutes to an 1-1/2 hours. The trail we will hike will depend on whether the roads will be fixed to get the llamas to Max Patch Trail. If road conditions will not permit, we will hike an alternate trail called the North Ridge Trail. Each trail is equally beautiful with spectacular views atop huge rock overlooks, trickling creeks, and grassy open fields with panoramic mountain views. We will lead our professionally-trained, fluffy llamas along the trail. We will have 10-12 llamas total, one for two hikers to share. We can interact with these unique animals and pack our gear in their saddles. After a few miles, we will break for our gourmet lunch, we will enjoy a menu filled with a choice of French baguettes filled with tomato, basil and brie cheese or a baguatte filled with organic spiced acorn squash, gorgonzola and arugula. I will also provide sides such as Sabra hummus & pita, roasted corn & black bean salad, fancy Kettle chips and a mixed berry dessert with chocolate. A mixed non-alcoholic drink selection will also be provided. We will return to the campground late afternoon/early evening. Relaxation and swimming in the French Broad river are your options until our hot springs hot tub reservation at 8:00-9:00pm. Sunday- Check out time is 11am. Be ready to go and checked out by 10:30am for another wonderful hike. We will hike a moderate 4-5 miles trail around the Max Patch area before we head back to Atlanta. If you would like to shower before you leave, going back to the Hot Springs campgroud to use their facilities is an option. Everyone will be responsible for his/her meals excluding the gourmet lunch on Saturday. Please bring one lunch for Sunday, dinner for Friday & Saturday nights and breakfast for Saturday & Sunday mornings. There are a few small restaurants in the town of Hot Springs which is 5 minutes from the campsite if you do not wish to bring food. I will bring goodies such as cheese & crackers, cookies and other snacks to share with everyone. Please bring snacks to share. Facts about Llamas that may suprise you! They will not spit at you - EVER! They do not bite. They do not kick. They do not smell. They aren't dirty. They are easy to lead. They follow you, walk with you willingly, stop when you stop and go when you go.
