This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

The Savage Gulf State Natural Area in Tennessee has over 60 miles of awesome trails. Join me as I explore the western side of this magnificent park to view rivers, waterfalls and gorge walls.

All times listed are in EST, the trail is located in the Central time zone.

We will start on the Stone Door Trail. This .7 mile rim trail has plenty of views and is quite flat. After going through the namesake Stone Door, we head down the gorge on the Big Creek Gulf Trail. Once we are at the bottom of the gorge we will take a left turn on the Connector Trail. This trail will keep us near the bottom of the gorge, with creek and waterfall views, for about 3 miles until we get to the swinging bridge that crosses the (probably dry) Collins River. If you were on my recent Collins Gulf event, you will recognize this as our lunch break location from that day, and will be our lunch location for this event as well. After lunch we will turn around and retrace our steps back to the Big Creek Gulf Trail. Instead of returning to our cars we will turn left on this trail to continue our adventure along the bottom of the gorge where waterfalls will abound and a side trail will lead us to an especially nice one on Ranger Creek. After another mile along the Big Creek we will endure the climb out of the gorge where we will meet up with Big Creek Rim Trail. This trail will be about 4 miles of mostly flat hiking with plenty of views of the Gulf below and will complete our loop adventure.

This is a difficult hike with challenging terrain. Only seasoned D5 hikers will be allowed to join the fun.
