| Itinerary: |
Join us for a fun day of hiking and playing in NW Georgia!
We will start by taking a moderately difficult 5-mile hike at Keown Falls and Johns Mountain. This is a figure 8 loop with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain from the trailhead to the top of Johns Mountain over fairly rocky terrain. We will take a break at the top to enjoy the views before heading back down. On the way down we will pass the two waterfalls known as Keown Falls. Please note that these falls have a tendancy to run dry so we will hope to see them running but if not we will still have a great hike! We will hike at an easy to moderate pace and I plan to stop at both overlooks and both waterfalls to take photos and explore.
After we arrive back at our cars, we will take about a 15 mile drive to the trailhead for Rocktown. This is one of the most unique places I have seen in Georgia. The trail is a very easy 2 mile (out and back) hike that leads to a jungle of fascinating rock formations. Here we will explore, play, and climb around before heading back to our cars.
When we get back to the park and ride, anyone interested is welcome to join us at Taco Mac just up the street. |

| Carpool Cost: | |
Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $55.50 (calculated at total miles (150) * $0.370, effective Friday, September 10, 2010). This is based on the current gas, maintenance, and other costs of $0.370 per mile as stated by the IRS & Cars.com. This should be divided by the total number of people in the vehicle (incl driver). For example: With 4 people in the vehicle, the expense per person on this trip would be $13.88 Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.
