ADVANCED HIKERS ONLY- 17 mile roundtrip dayhike.

Come join us for a challenging dayhike as we hike to Springer Mountain via the Approach Trail. This 8.1 mile trail starts at the top of Amicalola Falls and contains several steep climbs before we reach the summit, which is actually the official start of the Appalachain Trail.  We'll take a short break at Springer Mountain to take in the views and a quick snack before turning back and hiking the same trail we came in on. At the trail junction for the Hike Inn trail, we'll hike until we reach the Inn where we'll stop for a short lunch break (20 min approx) before hiking back to the top of the falls parking area.

We are planning to hike at a moderately fast (3.0 - 3.5 mph) with only a few breaks and a short lunch period. This would be a great training hike for those wanting a good workout or who are training for longer treks or bigger peaks.

If you sign up for this event, you will need to have some recent D4/D5 with similiar pace in hiking under your belt.  I may contact you to make sure you have the fitness level to keep up with the group.  Please understand that I will be doing this for everyone's benefit.

Carpool departure will be promptly at 8 a.m. arriving at the trail head at 9 a.m. and starting immediately after breif introductions. Keeping a 3 mph hike, we should be finishing close to 3 p.m. and back to the Mansel Road carpool location close to 4 p.m.

Those planning on meeting at the trailhead, please plan on being there at 8:45 as we will not have time to wait for people arriving after those that are meeting at the carpool.  Please be respectful of everyone's time!

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $41.60 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile.
