Itinerary:

This is a hike for advanced hikers.  The hike is approximately 18 miles round trip (and approximately 6400 ft elevation gain) with only a few rest breaks.  We will start at Trackrock Gap (2280 ft), immediately climbing 1500 ft to Roost Ride.  Following the ridge eastwards, we will pass Chimneytop Mtn (mile 4.4) to Brasstown Bald (mile 6.1; 4738 ft). We then descent the Jack Knob Trail to Hwy 180. After a short break, the entire group will retrace its steps back to the trailhead.  

Weather: Mid November often means cool temperatures, especially at higher elevation. Please come prepared; a down jacket to put on during rest breaks and a thermos with hot tea or cider can go a long way!

non-cotton clothes in layers

down / synthetic jacket (to stay warm during breaks)

rain gear / wind breaker (just in case...)

snacks and lunch

change of clothes after hike

cash for gas (for your carpool driver)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Take I-85/I-985 via Gainesville to Exit 24 and follow Hwy129/ Hwy11 to Cleveland. Continue on US Hwy11 North (which turns into Hwy19) past Voget State Park, then take a right on State Road 180 East.  Stay on 180 for 2.4 miles, turn left at Town Creek School Rd and after 2 miles turn right on Trackrock Church Rd.  Take another right onto Trackrock Gap Rd. The parking lot at the trailhead is on the left.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $62.00 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile.
