Recent D5 hiking experience is required. If your recent D5 hikes were not with AOC, please include a description of your recent D5 experience in the Notes section when signing up.

We will leave the carpool location no later than 7:00 AM, so please arrive earlier. We will head to Dahlonega, where we will take a quick break, and then drive directly to Track Rock Gap (see directions), which is where the trailhead is located.

The total distance for this hike is about 12 miles with close to 4,000 feet of total elevation gain. About a third of the hike's total elevation gain will be in the first 1.5 miles.

The plan is for the group to stay within close range. Our speed will be consistently moderate, subject to the terrain. This is not going to be a slow hike.

We will start hiking between 8:45 AM and 9:00 AM, taking the Arkaquah Trail east, and passing over Buzzard Roost Ridge. We will continue going east until we get to he Brasstown Bald parking lot, where will take the trail to Brasstown Bald. This is where we will have lunch, and enjoy a 360° view from the highest point in Georgia. After lunch, we will head back, retracing our steps.

After returning to Track Rock Gap, those interested can take a breif walk to view the Petroglyph site, before driving back to the carpool location.
