Important 

1) Due to the current wild fire situation I am closely monitoring both wild fire and weather conditions and if there is a small chance of wild fire or bad weather I will cancel the trip.

2) This event covers a demanding route. If you have not completed a recent D5 hike/backpack or we have not been on an event previously I need to clear your fitness and backpacking experience.

Itinerary in a nutshell:

First day:

  • -Ascent ≈ 2130 ft. - descent ≈ 1425 ft.
  • -Leave Mansell Park and Ride at 6:30 in the morning. Get to trail head before 10 and start hiking.
  • -7.5 miles from Lakeshore Trail Trailhead to camp site 69
  • -Couple creek crossing 
  • -Night at camp 69
  • -

Second day:

  • -Ascent ≈ 4330 ft. - descent ≈ 1733 ft.  
  • -Start hiking at 8 AM
  • -11.5 miles from camp site 69 to Silers Bald shelter
  • -Couple creek crossing 
  • -Night at Silers Bald shelter
  • -

Third day:

  • -Ascent ≈ 1150 ft. - descent ≈ 3715 ft.  
  • -Start hiking at 8 AM
  • -9.1 miles from Silers Bald to camp site 75
  • -Night at camp 75
  • -

Fourth day

  • -Ascent ≈1264 ft. - descent ≈1960 ft.  
  • -Start hiking at 8 AM
  • -5.9 miles from camp site 75 to the cars
  • -Grab a bite
  • -Night at home

 

P.S.

-Total Loop: 34 miles with 8900 ft. ascent and descent

-There are around 7 creek crossing in the first and second days so be prepared

-Please arrive 10 minutes early prior to car pool departure for introductions, directions, etc.. We will leave promptly at 6:30 AM

-The Permit Fee is $4 per person per night.
