Itinerary: | |||||||
Let's paddle on Lake Lanier at sunset and in to the dark. You'll need your own kayak/canoe (inflatable kayak is fine). We will stay out of the main channel. The plan is to paddle up a very pretty finger of the lake called Two Mile Creek. Hopefully the sunset will be amazing. We do plan on paddling after dark. It is completely legal and it is mandatory that each boat/operator wear a good headlamp. No exceptions to the headlamp rule - you must have one in order to participate. You must also have a PFD on your vessel and I suggest wearing it after dark. Two Mile creek is a no ski area (not no wake) and it's not too wide and there are many docks so it's a good place to kayak. Unless someone is a total jerk they are not going WOT. We should plan on sticking together as a group and sticking close to the shoreline/docks, especially after dark. We will have quite a caravan of kayaks out there, all with headlamps and I will bring a flashlight to politely shine if a boat comes near. I would be surprised if many boats came through at that time of the evening and if they do, they should be going slow. We should be able to spy in to some nice houses from the water (lights on inside at night, blinds not drawn).
Restrooms are available at the park - they are about a five minute walk from where we will launch our boats. Please allow enough time to to get ready to go (boat launch, restroom, etc) so we can all depart on time. Headlamp and PFD are mandatory.

Event Directions: | ![]() | I suggest opening your favorite map software and using the Lat/Lon below. A rough idea of location is 400 North to either Exit 16, 17 or the first traffic light (Browns Bridge Rd) this may now also be labeled as Exit 18 and from there it is approximately 7 miles east of 400. Vanns Tavern park is at the very end of Vanns Tavern Rd. Latitude, Longitude: 34.23515797406512, -83.98099705344238 | ![]() | ||||
