Itinerary:

We haven't started a Monday morning hike from the Columns Drive entrance to Cochran Shoals in a very long time!  Hopefully, the parking lot won't be too full for our 10 am hike.  (Try to arrive about 15 minutes early in case you have to wait for a parking spot.) We'll hike along the gravel path for a short time and enter the woods to begin a loop around the middle section. 

We'll start on time, so allow for traffic, parking, and bathroom use (bathrooms are available).  There is a $5 parking fee that must be paid online if you don't have an annual pass.  Be sure to go to https://www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/fees.htm to purchase either a daily pass or an annual pass before the hike starts.  

The group will gather at the large metal gate at the trailhead to the gravel path.

Hiking poles are recommended. These are mountain biking trails, so there are lots of little hills and rocks.

Directions

From I-285 East

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • Left for 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road
  • Go left, cross the Chattahoochee and take an immediate LEFT onto Columns Drive.
  • ·Stay on Columns Drive for about 2.6 miles, which will end at the unit.

 

From I-285 West

  • Take exit 24, Riverside Drive.
  • Right for 2.3 miles to Johnson Ferry Road
  • Go left, cross the Chattahoochee and take an immediate LEFT onto Columns Drive.
  • Stay on Columns Drive for about 2.6 miles, which will end at the unit.

 

From GA 9 North (Roswell Road)

  • Take Roswell Road to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Left onto Johnson Ferry Road go about 2.2 miles.
  • Cross the Chattahoochee River and take an immediate left onto Columns Drive.
  • Stay on Columns Drive for about 2.6 miles, which will end at the unit.

 

From GA 9 South (Roswell Road)

  • Take Roswell Road to Johnson Ferry Road.
  • Right onto Johnson Ferry Road go about 2.2 miles.
  • Cross the Chattahoochee River and take an immediate left onto Columns Drive.
  • Stay on Columns Drive for about 2.6 miles, which will end at the unit
