Itinerary:

We'll be hiking along the trails of Red Top Mountain in Cartersville, GA off I-75.  This area was named for the rich red color of the soil throughout the park.  The red color is an effect of the high iron ore content and which was once mined locally.  There are approximately 15 miles of hiking trails that flow along Lake Allatoona, rise high along Red Top Mountain, and twist and turn throughout this beautiful park.  We will take a 5 ½ mile path through forests of trees, across fields of grass, and along the shoreline of the lake. 

The carpool group will meet at the Busbee Park & Ride lot off Chastain Road and depart at 1:00 pm to meet the rest of the group at the Red Top Mountain Visitor's Center around 1:30 pm.  We will begin our hike no later than 2:00 pm.

For those driving directly to the event, feel free to arrive early if you wish to attend the Mountain Music special at The Lodge.  The Lodge is located about a five minute drive from the Visitor's Center.

After our hike, please join us to watch a game between The Atlanta Beat Women's Professional Soccer team and The Chicago Red Stars.  This game will be held at the brand new KSU stadium.  Tickets are only $5.00!


Required Items to Bring:
comfortable clothes, good supportive hiking boots, a pleasant attitude, and PLENTY OF WATER TO DRINK & STAY HYDRATED!  		Recommended Items to Bring:

From Atlanta, go north on I-75 to Exit 285. Go right on Red Top Mountain Road across Allatoona Lake to state park. The Visitor's Center is approximately 2 miles from I-75.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $6.40 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.
