Itinerary:

Come out and hike a challenging trail!

The Rich Mountain Trail is part of the Rich Mountain Wilderness area within the  Chattahoochee National Forest in Gilmer County, GA. It wa designated in 1986 and consists of almost 10,000 acres of the 13,000 acres that make up the Rich Mountains.

This is a 13.7 miles out and back hike. Highlights include  excellent views from the summit, rocky terrain and steep climbs. A good bit of the hike is on the Rocky Forest Service Road and I am told that there are mountain bikers who also travel this trail.

This trail runs between three mountains: Big Bald, Rich Bald and Tickanetley Mountain.

The first part is essentially uphill so be prepared for a good workout. Most of the elevation gain is hiking in.

We will hike in and stop at the summit for a brief respite and lunch and then return back to our cars.
