Itinerary:

Join me on the AOC classic to see the beautiful views at Wayah Bald and Siler Bald on the NC AT.

We start by parking at the Wayah Gap Picnic area. We will head north on the AT for a 2.7 mile, 1000 foot ascent that will take us near the top of Wine Spring Bald. Don't expect any big views here, the good stuff comes a little later. We continue on the AT with some small ups and downs for about 1.5 miles until we get to the Wayah Bald fire tower. The views here are outstanding. We may stop here for an early lunch, or if the crowds are too big we will enjoy a quick snack. After the fire tower we will retrace our steps, past our cars and on to the summit of Siler Bald. Siler Bald is a very large, grassy bald with more great views. We will take a different trail with a 1.5 mile descent back to our cars to complete our adventure.

This is a mid-level D5 hike, recent D5 experience is required to join the fun.

This is a fair weather hike. If the weather looks questionable, somewhere else we will go.
