Itinerary:

 

June 18 is George Mallory's birthday... Yes, that Mallory... the one who was (arguably) the first to summit Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest). When asked why he wanted to climb Mount Everest, Mallory said "Because it's there!" Well, Stone Mountain is also there, so let's go climb it in honor of Mallory. We'll meet/begin near the restrooms at the Whistle Stop area, feel the burn as head up the rock, enjoy the views at the summit, regroup near the Geo-markers, then return to the parking lot. Go Mallory!

 

DISCLAIMER: This is a brisk, moderately strenuous hike with 700+ foot elevation gain and a substantial amount of rock scrambling. If you have mobility issues, are recovering from injury, or prefer a slower pace, please sit this one out!

  • Please, no unregistered guests or +Ones!

  • Late cancellations, particularly within 36 hours of the event, make it difficult for those on the waitlist to attend. Please be courteous to your fellow AOC members and cancel with as much notice as possible.

  • I usually hike RAIN-or-SHINE! However, in case of severe weather or other unforeseen emergencies that warrant a cancellation, I will text/email you at least TWO HOURS before the start of the event.


* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:

There is no cost for this event, however, entry to Stone Mountain Park is $20 per vehicle, or $40 for an annual pass. If you want to avoid the fee, you can park for free outside the Park or on Main Street in Stone Mountain Village and walk or ride your bike for free into the park.
