Please join us for a hike on the Coosa Backcountry Trail. We have heard this is a very challenging, not fun hike. Come join the challenge and we will try to make it fun. You will have the satisfaction of completing one of the most difficult hikes in Georgia. We have done part of the loop so hike is noted as Exploratory. Most reviews on AllTrails have noted 8 hours to complete hike. The hike, going counterclockwise, will take us into the Chattahoochee National Forest and Blood Mountain Wilderness. We will come to Sosebee Cove which is a large drainage area for Wolf Creek. After crossing the creek, we will begin a demanding 4 mile climb to the top of Coosa Bald. There is a spur trail that takes us to Coosa Bald. We will then go down and up to Slaughter Mountain and looping our way back down to where we started. We will have a 15-20 minute lunch break at Coosa Bald, a little over halfway of our hike. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/georgia/coosa-backcountry- trail?u=i&sh=pebdiv This is a challenging D5 hike covering 14 miles and 3600+ elevation gain. There may be areas of overgrowth. You should be able to keep up the pace with the group with minimal rest breaks. We will stay together as a group. To join the hike, please have solid D5 AOC hiking experience in the last 4-6 weeks. Please plan to arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can start promptly at 9:00 a.m. | |||||||
