Stone Mountain - D4 - Summit Twice and Cherokee Trail

Please join me for a hike at Stone Mountain. Hike will be a solid D4 with over 9 miles and 1600 feet elevation. Pace will be moderate to fast pace, 2.7 - 3.2 mph, with minimal rest stops. We will summit twice and then go around on a modified Cherokee trail with connector trails. Moderate on the mountain and faster on the going around. Please have solid D3 or above AOC experience in the last 4 weeks.

We will meet outside the bathrooms by the beginning of the walk up trail. We will climb up to the summit of Stone Mountain and regroup at the top. After taking a short break and enjoying the views, we will climb back down. We will then repeat and climb to the summit and back down.

We will then take the orange connector trail counterclockwise to the green nature trail and then to the white Cherokee trail. We will follow the Cherokee trail till we reach the covered bridge. Then to the Grist Mill, past the carving, then back on the orange connector trail to the bathrooms and parking lot.

Stone Mountain requires a parking pass, daily $20.00 or yearly $40.00.

Please arrive 10-15 minutes early so we can start the hike on time.

From I-285/US-78 interchange on the east side of town, take U.S. Highway 78 East about 7.7 miles. Bear right at Exit #8 to the Stone Mountain Park main entrance. After entering, follow Jefferson Davis Drive about a mile straight ahead. Bear right onto Robert E. Lee and follow it about another mile. Past the gate on your right, you will see the parking lot on your left. We will meet outside the restroom building at the base of the walk up trail.
