Itinerary:

Join me as I hike the North Carolina portion of the Appalachian Trail!!

We’ll meet at the Indian Trail Park and Ride for a carpool departure at 7am. We’ll drive to Franklin, NC for a final pit stop at the Ingles. Once we’re ready, we’ll head towards Winding Stair Gap in NC for a 10 am departure time. We’ll head NOBO  on the Appalachian Trail towards Siler Bald. We’ll hike approximately 4.2 miles with a 1,200 foot ascent and a 280 foot descent. We’ll take in the views of Siler Bald and take a lunch break. Siler Bald has a summit of 5,216 feet and offers sweeping 360 degree views of the surrounding valleys. Once we finish lunch, we’ll reverse course and head back to Winding Stairs Gap. We’ll hike approximately 4.2 miles with a 280 foot ascent and 1,200 foot descent.

 

This day hike will be approximately 8.4 miles total with a total elevation gain/loss of 1,480 feet. Since this is a fast paced D4 the trip leader reserves the right to move a participant to the Wait List if they do not have adequate experience.

Warm Clothing

Lunch/Snacks

Water (2L at least)

Comfortable hiking shoes/boots

Change of clothes/shoes for the ride back

Rain gear (just in case)
