Itinerary:

Today's hike is the last portion of the Path Foundation's Trail System starting north of Abrabia Mountain passing by Panola Mountain becoming South River Trail then the last 9 miles becoming Rockdale River Trail. Soon after starting our hike, we will find the 200 mile marker celebrating the Path Foundation's 200 successful miles of pathway created in Georgia.

Join us for a brisk walk on a rolling, paved trail starting at the monastery trailhead with a turn around at Lorraine Park on the South River. The path takes us through woodlands, over streams and the South River, meadows, and urban settings to a park with river overlooks.

For those so inclined, after the hike, you can walk the monastery grounds, walk to the lake, tour the museum, and visit the monastery store. The Monastery of the Holy Spriit was begun in 1944 by 21 Trappist monks. Over the years, the monastery has become a destination for retreats, school trips, the goodies from the bakery, and the natural burial cemetery.

There are restrooms at the monastery store (opens at 10 am) and at Lorraine Park. Parking is free and available at the trailhead parking or a couple of hundred yards further to the monastery store parking lot. We will meet up at the monastery store parking lot in front of the store at 10:05 am for introductions and a hike start at 10:15.
