I recently went on this hike with friends, and it was a rainy and cloudy day, as seen in the photo, I still thought it’s one of the most beautiful hikes I’ve done within driving distance of Atlanta.

Even though we could hike in a loop instead of going out and back, I really think this trail is worth exploring in both directions. 

 

We’ll begin at Cravens House, which is located on the slopes of Lookout Mountain, part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. 

The trail stretches across both Tennessee and Georgia with an elevation gain of about 1700 feet.

It’s the main site of the “Battle Above the Clouds” that took place on November 24, 1863. Several states have constructed monuments around the house and the battlefield to remember the soldiers who fought there. 

No parking fee required.

No bathrooms.
