Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue. This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary. | |||||||

Thank you Ann for allowing me to copy the hike. Hike is listed as exploratory. I have hiked in the canyons and the loop trail. I have not hiked the Backcountry Trail Loop. Deema and I will be co-leading FDR 24 mile D6 hike on Sunday, November 8th. We will be staying in hotel in Warm Springs, Saturday, November 7th. Join me as we explore Providence Canyon, know as Georgia's Little Grand Canyon. The Canyons were created from poor farming practices by the early settlers and the soft soil started washing it away. It has exposed the colorful sandy soil. We will take it at a moderate pace while exploring canyons 2-8. We will then jump on the 6.6-mile Backcountry Trail Loop, this starts in the creek bed. Consider having a change of footwear, as your boots/shoes could get muddy. Once we get off the creek bed I plan on picking up speed a bit (not too fast) so we can get a workout in as well. The backcountry loop connects in with the white trail the upper canyon and we can take in some other views from above. This hike can vary by a mile or so depending on how many extra outlets we explore. This event is much different then your North GA mountains we will be following creek beds in and out of the the various canyons. This means it will be wet, sandy and muddy. It also depends on the amount of rain we have had. Plan on meeting outside the visitor center doors. There are bathrooms here but always a line or not working properly. When you are driving in there is another set up bathrooms before you reach visitor center lot, but parking is minimal. We will stop at these at the end when we are on the white trail.
