The Park:

As described by Pine Mountain Trail Association:Quiet woods, sparkling streams, misty waterfalls, rock outcroppings, varied forest, scenic overlooks, deer and turkey await your discovery.

FDR often visited the area of the Wolfden and Cascade Falls, on April 12, 1945, Roosevelt died at his retreat, named the Little White House located a couple miles away.

Pine Mountain is a Point-to-point 23 miles trail with over 4100 feet elevation gain when you hike the trail in the direction West to East, a route from one end of the park to another. We did this hike a couple of times and it always records 24 miles on AllTrails & Garmin.

We will meet at the trailhead and outlook parking area, across the street from the Country Kitchen at Callaway. You must arrive by 7:30 a.m. We will be shuttling cars to the end of the hike. Depending on number of hikers, we will shuttle one or two cars.

West to East Trailhead Location:Trailhead and Outlook Parking

Additional Stops: The trip leader will decide if the group has enough time and energy to make the following stops:

a)the summit of Dowdell's Knob for photos with life-size statue of Franklin D. Roosevelt.

b) Visitor Center and bathrooms.

We will be keeping a very brisk pace of 3.0 mph. We must keep this pace to finish before dark. Also, we are not allowed to be on the trail when it gets dark.

To participate, you must have recently completed multiple strenuous D5 hikes in the last 6 weeks. Trip leaders will make final determination for participation.
