Chattanooga National Battlefield Park - Chattanooga Hike 1 of 3

This is the first of three hikes I am leading in the Chattanooga area. These hikes can be done as individual hikes where you drive from the Atlanta area or stay the night in Chattanooga. All the hikes will start at 10:00 am, giving you time to drive up.

The hike is an Exploratory Hike because I did this hike once by myself in August of 2019. It has now been seven years.

We will meet at the Visitor Center parking lot for introductions and a restroom stop. We will hike a combination of trails (Mountain Beautiful, Bluff, Gum Spring, Upper Truck, Riffle Pit, Cravens, and Hardy Trails) to get us to the 6.3 mile distance. We will not go down and up Lookout Moutain.

This is not a beginner’s hike.

I have directions from the Embassy Suites Chattanooga Downtown for those staying the night and from I75 for those driving up in the morning.

Take US-11 S/US-41 N/US-64 W/US-72 W and TN-148 S to E Brow Rd in Lookout Mountain 12 min (5.9 mi)

Use the 2nd from the right lane to take the I-24 E/US-11/US-41/US-64/Broad St exit toward I-75/Atlanta/Knoxville/Lookout Mtn 0.2 mi

Follow E Brow Rd to Point Park Rd 4 min (1.2 mi)

Follow I-75 N to W 21st St in Chattanooga. Take exit 178 from I-24 W

You will need an America the Beautifull pass or a daily entrance pass. The fee is $10.00 per person. They do not take cash. The passes can be purchased online.

I am planning to stay at the Embassy Suites Chattanooga Downtown. I stayed there in late May with my daughters and granddaughters. Part of the price is made-to-order breakfast and compliment evening reception. There are several other hotels and places to eat in the area. I would eat again at 5 of the 6 places we ate at in May again. There are other things to do in the area after the hike besides the hotel pool. The TN Aquarium is two and a half blocks away, the Riverfront is a quarter of a mile, and I plan on taking an afternoon class at Ignis Glass half a block away. If you take the class, you will pick your project up the next day.

I don’t plan on posting this as a carpool event. I plan on diving to Chattanooga on Thursday, 10/29 and leaving Marietta between 3pm and 4 pm. If you want to stay for all three events, you can ride up with me.

Parking is cheaper than Atlanta. I recommend parking at the parking garage. It’s a block from the hotel in the hotel district. Parking by parking lots by the various business can get expensive.
