Cloudland Canyon State Park GA - Chattanooga Hike 2 of 3

This is the second of three hikes I am leading in the Chattanooga area. These hikes can be done as individual hikes where you drive from the Atlanta area or stay the night in Chattanooga. All the hikes will start at 10:00 am, giving you time to drive up.

The hike is an Exploratory Hike because I did this hike once by myself in August of 2020. It has now been six years.

We will meet at the Visitor Center parking lot for introductions and a restroom stop. We will hike the Overlook Trail, the Waterfalls Trail, and the West Rim Trail to get us to the 7.8 mile distance.

This is not a beginner’s hike.

I have directions from the Embassy Suites Chattanooga Downtown for those staying the night and from I75 for those driving up in the morning.

Get on US-27 S 3 min (0.9 mi)

 Head toward W 4th St 197 ft

 Turn right onto W 4th St 0.1 mi

Use the left 2 lanes to take the exit toward US-27 S 0.1 mi

 Use any lane to take the Martin Luther King Blvd exit toward I-24/State Hwy 27 0.6 mi

Take I-24 W and I-59 S to GA-136 E/White Oak Gap Rd in Trenton. Take exit 11 from I-59 S 18 min (19.6 mi)

 Merge onto US-27 S 0.8 mi

 Take the exit onto I-24 W toward Nashville/Birmingham Entering Georgia 10.2 mi

 Use the left 2 lanes to take exit 167 for I-59 S toward Birmingham 0.7 mi

 Continue onto I-59 S 7.7 mi

 Take exit 11 for GA-136 toward Trenton 0.2 mi 

Continue on GA-136 E. Drive to Cloudland Canyon Park Rd in Rising Fawn 12 min (7.1 mi)

Follow I-75 N to GA-136 in Resaca. Take exit 320 from I-75 N 46 min (52.8 mi)

 Merge onto I-75 N 1.5 mi

 Continue straight to stay on I-75 N 51.0 mi

 Take exit 320 for GA-136 toward Resaca/Lafayette 0.2 mi

 Use the left lane to take the ramp to GA-136 98 ft

Follow GA-136 to Cloudland Canyon Park Rd in Rising Fawn 59 min (47.2 mi)

 Turn left onto GA-136 21.1 mi

 Turn left onto GA-136 W/GA-151 S 1.4 mi

You will need State Park Annual pass or a $10.00 daily park pass. The passes can be purchased online or at the park kiosks or at the park office.

I am planning to stay at the Embassy Suites Chattanooga Downtown. I stayed there in late May with my daughters and granddaughters. Part of the price is made-to-order breakfast and compliment evening reception. There are several other hotels and places to eat in the area. I would eat again at 5 of the 6 places we ate at in May. There are other things to do in the area after the hike besides the hotel pool. The TN Aquarium is two and a half blocks away, the Riverfront is a quarter of a mile, and I plan on taking an afternoon class at Ignis Glass half a block away. If you take the class, you will pick your project up the next day.

I don’t plan on posting this as a carpool event. I plan on diving to Chattanooga on Thursday, 10/29 and leaving Marietta between 3pm and 4 pm. If you want to stay for all three events, you can ride up with me.

Parking is cheaper than Atlanta. I recommend parking at the parking garage. It’s a block from the hotel in the hotel district. Parking in parking lots by the various business can get expensive.
