Itinerary:

Join us for a hike through the Berkeley Lake Nature Preserve, a quiet wooded park right here in Gwinnett. There aren't any grand views, but the trails wind through tall hardwoods and pines, with a few short, steep hills to get your heart pumping. We'll keep a moderate pace of roughly 2.5 mph and cover about 3.8 miles, with roughly 600 ft of total ascent.

The preserve's main loop is about a mile, so we'll make use of some of the side trails as well as hiking the loops in the opposite direction. There's a downloadable trail map under Notes, below.

A little history: Berkeley Lake goes back to 1948, when the dam that created the lake was built. Developer Frank Coggins named it after his Berkeley Blue Granite quarries in Elberton. The community became the City of Berkeley Lake in 1956, and in 1996 residents voted to buy about 63 acres of undeveloped forest to keep as greenspace. The city's Conservancy still looks after its protected land, with a yearly monitoring visit from the Georgia Piedmont Land Trust.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

3931 Peachtree Industrial Blvd, Duluth, GA 30096

Google Maps Pin for parking.

Note: Park in the front lot of the small shopping center at the corner of N Berkeley Lake Road and Peachtree Industrial Blvd.  There should be plenty of open spaces. From there, walk across N Berkeley Lake Road and we'll meet at the main trailhead. There are also a few spots along the side of the road by the trailhead, but I usually prefer parking on pavement at the shopping center. Either way works though.
