Itinerary:

This is a beautifully forested part of the CNRA, nestled in an urban setting.  Your trip leaders will be using this event to try to become familiar with the trails in the area, so we'll be slowing down the pace to be able to reconnoiter our location along the way.  We may repeat some trails and briefly lose our way, but we'll have fun doing so.  We'll get back to the parking lot within the specified time, fear not.

We'll walk along the gravel path to the back loop, where we'll enter the woods and take several trails throughout the area.  There are some good elevation changes, so we should keep a nice heart rate going. There is poison ivy flanking the trails in several places, so wear long pants if you're susceptible to breaking out.

Although the pace will be moderate, this is NOT a beginner's hike.  The trails can be challengingly steep in a few places and we want the group to stay together.

Be sure you have $3 in cash to pay for parking if you don't have an annual CNRA pass.

The parking lot entrance is between Powers Ferry Road and Northside Drive, along Interstate North - - with I-285 paralleling Interstate North within eyeshot of the parking lot.

From eastbound Interstate 285

  • Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
  • Go to second traffic light and go left onto New Northside Drive.
  • Use “through” lane to pick up Interstate North Parkway.
  • Unit will be .6 miles on the right after crossing the Chattahoochee.

From westbound Interstate  285

  • Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.
  • Right on New Northside Drive.
  • Use “through” lane to pick up Interstate North Parkway.
  • Unit will be .6 miles on the right after crossing the Chattahoochee.

If you're on Powers Ferry Road heading south, turn LEFT just before going under 285.  The lot will be on your
 left before you cross the river.

Notes:

There's a bathroom facility at this parking lot.  :-)
Be sure to bring $3 cash for parking if you don't have an annual pass.
