***BEGINNERS WELCOME!***

This series is designed to be a fun way to ease oneself into the world of hiking and The Great Outdoors.  Maybe you have only walked to get from one point to another and not sure what hiking is all about.  Perhaps you are recovering from an injury.  Maybe you aren't sure if you have the "right" gear for an outdoor adventure. Or maybe you're an avid hiker and would like to mix things up with a slow-paced walk closer to home.  Whatever the reason, these walks are a great way to get out and stretch your legs while meeting new people and checking out a local park you may not have known about.  Who knows?  Maybe a few of these parks are just around the corner from you!

If you are a new member with the AOC, or if you are a Beginner/Novice hiker please feel free to sign up.  This will be a great way to get to know the AOC and others interested in hiking.  Veteran hikers you are also welcome to sign up.  This will be a relaxing change from your D5 hikes while getting to know a local park and meet new members.

This hike will take place at Murphy Candler Park.  This 135 acre park has baseball and football fields, a swimming pool, tennis courts and picnic facilities.  We will be walking along the nature trail that encompasses the area.  There will be plenty of wildlife to view including Canadian geese, mallard ducks, various songbirds, a heron, hawk, and an owl. 

We will hike around the entire area once, but those who wish to go another round may do so at their leisure.


Required Items to Bring:

comfortable shoes you don't mind getting dirty, water to stay hydrated, pleasant personality. : )

We will meet in the parking lot across from the baseball field near the wide Murphy Candler Park sign, not the dock side.

From Perimeter Mall:
Head South on Ashford-Dunwoody Road.
Cross over I-285.
Continue on Ashford-Dunwoody Road to W. Nancy Creek Drive.
Turn left onto W. Nancy Creek Drive.
The parking area is four blocks ahead on left before the bridge.

From downtown Atlanta:
Go North on Peachtree Street to Ashford-Dunwoody Road.
Turn left onto Ashford-Dunwoody Road.
Continue on Ashford-Dunwoody Road to W. Nancy Creek Drive.
Turn right onto W. Nancy Creek Drive.
The parking area is four blocks ahead on left before the bridge.
