Itinerary:


The West Palisades Unit of the Chattahoochee National Recreation Area is inside the Perimeter in Vinings, on Cobb Parkway.

We meet at the Paces Mill parking area at 3444 Cobb Parkway SE, Atlanta 30339.  We go to Devils Racecourse Shoals and back, about four and a half miles, which should take about two hours.

Our route follows the banks of the Chattahoochee, going under I-75 and crossing Rottenwood Creek. It then rises up into the bluffs and comes back down to the river and ends at a sandy bank facing the Shoals.

Along the river we will see some fast water in places and pass other spots where the water runs quiet and deep, with cliffs on the opposite side.

The trail is mostly easy with some moderate uphill sections.

Please remember to bring $3 for the National Park Service parking fee, unless you have a Chattahoochee NRA annual pass.

3444 Cobb Parkway SE, Atlanta GA 30339

From I-285 East

Take exit 19 U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway) South 1.5 miles to the unit entrance on left, just beyond the BP Service Station. Do not cross the Chattahoochee.

From I-285 West

Take exit 20 U.S. 41(Cobb Parkway) South 1.5 miles to the unit entrance on left, just beyond the BP Service Station. Do not cross the Chattahoochee.

From I-75 North

Take Exit 25, Mt.. Paran Road. Left on Mt.. Paran Road to U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway). Turn right on U.S. 41 for 1 mile cross the Chattahoochee and take an immediate right onto entrance road.

From I-75 South

Take Exit 25, Mt.. Paran Road. Right on Mt.. Paran Road to U.S. 41 (Cobb Parkway). Turn right on U.S. 41 for 1 mile cross the Chattahoochee and take an immediate right onto entrance road.
