We will start at Fernbank Museum of Natural History (767 Clifton Rd, Atlanta, GA 30307) at 8:30 AM.

Round trip distance: 11 miles.

(6 miles from Fernbank to Piedmont Park, because of detour through more scenic parts of Piedmont Park.  5 mile return trip from Piedmont to Fernbank.)

Route / event description:

+ Ride through Shady Side Park to the Stone Mtn Trail at Clifton Terrace NE.

+ Ride West on the Stone Mtn Trail / Freedom Park Trail to the Carter Center.

+ Hang out. Have breakfast (& coffee!) at the Freedom Farmers Market @ The Carter Center. {1}

+ The Farmers Market opens at 9:00 AM.  Getting there towards when the market opens will allow more time to talk to vendors and buy the best stuff.  May 9th is Strawberry Day! The Atlanta Audubon Society will also be there. {2}  Surprise them with your knowledge that James Audubon didn't found the Audubon Society and that he shot and killed every bird he painted {3}.

+ Continue on the Freedom Park Trail to intersection with the Eastside Beltline near the Fourth Ward Skatepark.

+ Ride North on the Beltline until you reach Piedmont Park (10th St).

+ Ride the long way around Piedmont Park, through the Promenade and the Legacy Fountain.  (Note that the Fountain will not be on until May 23.)  {4}

+ Arrive at the Piedmont Park Green Market.  The Market is open from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM.  {5}

+ Buy more awesome organic produce, enjoy the live music, then turn around and ride the same way back to Fernbank.

+ Consider hanging around for the 1:00 PM showing of Humpback Whales in IMAX. {6, 7}
