Itinerary:

Join me for a leisurely paddle on the lovely "Bull Sluice Lake" section of the  Chattahoochee River in Roswell. For this "BYO Boat" flatwater event each of us is responsible for bringing our own kayak or canoe, or a borrowed or rented one.  See suggested items to bring below and detailed directions to the event. We will meet at the Azalea Park boat ramp, introduce ourselves, review our itinerary and head upstream against a gentle current for two miles to the GA 400 bridge. There we'll wait to regroup then turn around and paddle back. Be on the lookout for wildlife. Often beavers, herons and hawks are seen.  Some evenings a majestic sight of cool fog rises just above the water. You'll probably want your camera. This is a good event for taking the tension out of a busy day or for recovering from a strenuous hike while getting in a little upper body workout. Beginners are welcome.

Required Items to Bring:

You must bring water to drink, a personal flotation device (PFD), paddle and a boat.

Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.

Even the hottest Atlanta summer evenings are cool on the river. Besides water, you might want a long sleeve shirt, another dry shirt or change of clothes for after. Other items might include a waterproof camera, towel, whistle and/or snacks. No glass, please.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

The address for Azalea Park is 203 Azalea Drive, Roswell, GA.  30075.  This is also called the "Bull Sluice Lake" section of the Chattahoochee River in Roswell, GA.

FROM the GA-400/I-285 INTERCHANGE on ATLANTA'S NORTH SIDE:

1. Take GA-400 North about 5 miles to Exit #6, "Northridge Rd," and exit toward your right.
2. At the exit loop clockwise up onto Northridge Road and proceed just 0.1 mile toward the first traffic light beyond the GA-400 overpass.
3. Just before you reach that light bear Right onto Dunwoody Place and take it 1.3 miles to the traffic light at Roswell Road.
4. Turn Right onto Roswell Road (GA-9 North) and take it just 0.6 mile to the traffic light at Azalea Drive (just past the Chattahoochee River bridge).
5. Turn Left onto Azalea Drive and take it about 0.8 mile to the Azalea Park boat ramp entrance on your left.
6. Park temporarily by the boat ramp and unload your kayak or canoe and gear. We can gather there and stage the boats on the riverbank near the ramp. Free parking likely will be available in nearby parking spaces - if not, it's normally OK to park along the shoulder of Azalea Drive.
