Itinerary:

Special Note Added Thu PM Aug 13:  Our CRK friends suggest that AOC volunteers for this event formally register no later than midday this Fri Aug. 14th per the instructions below.  After that time they expect to have enough volunteers.

Please join us for a fun easy hike on Atlanta's beautiful "Northside" portion of the Atlanta Beltline between midtown Atlanta and Buckhead.  (See Directions below.) The hike will immediately follow our participation in a very worthy project to clean up the Northside Beltline corridor that is being organized by our friends of the Chattahoochee Riverkeeper organization, CRK.org.

Each AOC participant should register in BOTH of the following two ways:

1.
Register FORMALLY as a CRK volunteer by clicking this link and filling in your personal information:  https://www.signup4.net/Public/ap.aspx?EID=CRKC10E

2.  Register for this AOC hike by clicking, etc. at the base of this event article as you would normally for other AOC events.

Here's the CRK information about the volunteer project:

In 2014, Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (CRK) hosted 17 cleanups and with the assistance of over 1300 volunteers, we removed 21 TONS of trash from our rivers and lakes!  Our waterways provide us with fresh drinking water, great recreational opportunities like canoeing and fishing, and they serve as a pleasant respite from our busy day-to-day lives. This is your opportunity to help protect one of our most precious resources by volunteering on a cleanup!

Tanyard Creek Clean Up at Ardmore Park
In partnership with Park Pride and Ardmore Park Association
August 15 - 9am to 12pm
What to Expect: We will be picking up trash in and around Tanyard Creek within Ardmore Park, wading in the water and/or walking along the banks. Lifting of wet, trash-laden garbage bags required.
Additional Information:
  • What to Wear:  Wear clothes that you don't mind getting very dirty and WET.  Please dress weather appropriate… we will be outdoors the entire time. Wear BOOTS (preferred), water shoes, or old sneakers (absolutely NO sandals). We highly encourage you to wear long pants as some of the trash we pick up can be sharp/jagged materials.
  • Please bring clean clothes and shoes to change into for the AOC hike and your journey home.
  • CRK will provide tools, trash bags, work gloves, water and snacks.
  • Child/Youth Participation: We welcome children, but they must be supervised at all times by their parent/guardian.  While a cleanup is not normally dangerous, it can be to an unattended child. Minimum 10 years of age.
