Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

The Wildcat Area is a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) property in Dawson County, and hikers must have the GORP pass on the Wildcat creek trails.  The trip leader will have a pass, however, there is a limit of 8 hikers so please plan accordingly.  Contributions of $1 per hiker will be appreciated to help cover the cost of the pass which is specific to the hikers on this event.  Some sections of the hike are steep.

Sections of the trail are composed of foothills and coves with rivers and creeks and there will be at least 3 water crossings.  The cove areas at the lower elevations are very different ecologically from the higher elevations. These areas are generally wetlands or creek flats with an abundance of rhododendron, mountain laurel, hemlock trees and many other flora species.

We will begin from the campground on Turner Trail, then onto the steep Windy Ridge Trail.  The Rocky Ford Trail has one river crossing then onto the Tabacco Pouch Trail.  We will return on the Fall Creek Trail with 2 water crossings and the Wildcat Creek Trail.  Total elevation is approximately 3,000 feet.

Windy Ridge Trail
Rocky Ford Trail (1 wet foot crossing)
Tobacco Pouch Trail
Fall Creek Trail (2 water crossings)

Dougs must be on leash at all times according to DNR rules.

Note:  The trip leader may contact you to determine your fitness level. The trip leader reserves the right to remove anyone from the list who they feel cannot handle this trip.
