Itinerary:

A big thank-you to Sharon F. for alerting me to this spectacular, temporary art exhibit on the Atlanta Beltline. (I love it when members suggest interesting events for me to post!)

Dozens of visual works of art from local to international artists have transformed the Atlanta BeltLine into a linear gallery space. In addition to the more than 30 permanent Beltline exhibits we've enjoyed, over 60 new, dynamic art installations have been erected along the railroad corridor.  These new installations are temporary and will be on display only until mid-November; so grab this chance to see the spectacular displays on a leisurely walk with fellow AOC members.

The Beltline hike is flat, so elevation change will not be a problem.  However, consider the length of the trek (almost 8 miles) when deciding to register for this event.  We'll be walking at a very comfortable pace and stopping frequently to appreciate all the exhibits we pass. Distance will be the only challenge for people who are new to hiking.

We'll gather behind the Publix supermarket  (parking lot on the back right) off Monroe Avenue (see street address and coordinates below) and access the Beltline behind the supermarket, where we'll travel north past Piedmont Park.  We'll check out the new Ponce City Market and then head to Irwin Street, where we'll stop to enjoy some lunch, ice cream, or just a relaxing respite from our walk.  (Both the Irwin Market and the newer Krog Street Market have lots of great food offerings.) Then, we'll head back, taking a different route through Piedmont Park, where we'll see sights like the educational garden and the dog park.

Bring your camera or plan to use your cell phone for the many photo opportunities you'll have.
