This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

** NOTE, this hike was revised from a D4 to a D5.  Over 2500 feet of total elevation was hiked.  Measured by a Garmin 910XT and a Garmin 9210XT **

We will start our morning at the Cool Springs Overlook and Gahuti Trailhead.  We will head west and take the Stone Wall Trail to enable us to view the old ruins and check out the West Overlook.  From there, we will rejoin the Gahuti Trail which takes us through Fort Mountain’s beautiful backcountry, looping 8.2 miles through remote stretches of this Georgia State Park. The Gahuti  (Cherokee for ‘Mother Mountain’) treks to a beautiful, multi-tier waterfall at Goldmine Branch Creek and passes four campsites on this moderately challenging loop hike. (Credit to: Atlanta Trails.com)  When we reach the waterfalls, we will once again deviate from the Gahuti Trail and check out Big Rock Trail leading us to the Lake Trail.  At that point, we will stop for lunch.  After lunch, we will get back on the Gahuti Trail and finish up the loop.

We’ll climb and descend a total elevation change of nearly 4,000 feet (taken from one of the websites so this may not be 100% accurate - that's our disclaimer!)  and our ‘reward’ will be incredible long-range views from multiple overlooks length.

Good hiking boots will come in handy as the trail is extremely rocky at points.  We will go at a steady pace - comfortable enough to allow us to naviagate the rocks safely and enable us to enjoy the views!

Safety first: Liquids are a must: one 16 oz bottle will not be adequate for this hike.  Dehydration is not fun and it does happen!  .

The carpool will leave PROMPTLY at 7 am and the hike will start at 9:00am.

Restrooms are available at the Park

$5.00 Park pass or Georgia State Park pass
