Itinerary:

One of my favored winter hikes! Interested in joining me for a hike up and over ever popular Blood Mountain? No tourist route on this version - we'll climb right out of the Byron Herbert Reece parking lot for about 2 miles and gain around 1350 feet - that should get the pump going!

After our "warm up" we'll descend the other side and hike out to Lake Winfield Scott for our lunch break. I will be bringing a stove, so there will be hot water for soup, tea or chocolate!! After the break, we'll head back along Slaughter Creek Trail, then up the "easy side" of Blood Mountain to the top. After a good long last look from the summit, we'll gather the group and head back down to the parking lot.

Blood Mountain stands 4458' above sea level with 1516' feet of clean prominence.  It is the highest peak on the Georgia section of the Appalachian Trail.

On the drive home, we may stop for dinner, so bring a few extra $$.
