Itinerary:

The weather is supposed to be perfect on Saterday; a great evening to have a nice hike to the top of Yonah, have a little picnic and watch the sunset. At 3166' Mount Yonah has great views over the surrounding area and its westerly facing overlook provides a great spot to watch a sunset.

Our route will follow the main trail up with a side trip to the bottom of the cliff face. From the bottom of the cliffs we will take an alternate trail to the top. The hike to the top is only 2.3 miles, however, it has 1,400 feet of ascent. Therefore, this hike is considered a very upper end D3 hike - ensure you are suited for such a hike.

When we reach the top of Yonah, we should have about an hour before sunset. This will give us a little time to wander around the top, take photos at some select spots, and eat a snack/picnic at the overlook while watching the sun set. We'll most likely hang around about 15 minutes after the sun sets for twilight sky colors.

The hike down will be in the dark (with no moon-light), so a good headlamp/flashlight is a must. We will hike at a moderate pace with with some stops for photo opportunities.

The temperature at the beginning of the hike will be in the upper 70's. On top of Yonah at sunset, I expect it will be in the mid-60's with a slight breeze. If you are prone to getting chilly, you may want to bring along a long sleeve shirt or light jacket.

This is the route we will follows:
