Itinerary:

Join us for a combination of hiking and swimming. We will start at the Byron Reece parking lot and get on the trail to Flatrock Gap. From there, we will hike on Freeman trail for about two miles to the Applachian Trail, we then hike south on Appalachian trail to Jarrard Gap where we leave appalachian trail toward Lake Windfield Scott. We take one to hour and half to have lunch, and swim in the lake. We then start our return on Slaughter Creek trail a distance of about 2 to 2.5 miles to Appalachian trail, from there we hike south .3 miles to bird gap where we take Freeman Trail back to Flat Rock Gap and  take Byron Herbert Reece Trail to parking lot.

Lake Winfield Scott was completed in 1942 by the Civilian Conservation Corps.  The lake and all of it’s buildings, roads and structures are the work of the Corps and remains intact today.
Overall, the hike will be around 11 miles with some strenuous climbing at a moderate pace.
We will stop at all of the major turns/crossroads to keep the group together and take necessary water breaks.
We expect approximately 5 hours of hiking including water breaks.
We will start hiking at 11 AM.
Optional: If there is enough interest, we can stop at the Thai Restaurant (on GA 400 accross from the Outlet Mall) for dinner. Please discuss your dinner plans in the morning in order to plan the carpool accordingly.
