Itinerary:

Located north of Atlanta in Cumming, Georgia, Sawnee Mountain Preserve provides visitors with 963 acres of scenic passive space, hiking trails and an interactive Visitor Center. The Visitor Center serves as the administrative home for the Outdoor Division of Forsyth County Parks and Recreation. There are two visitor's centers, please meet at the Spot Road one.

Visitor Center hours: M-F 8:30 AM-5:00 PM
Preserve hours: S-S 8:00 AM-Dark

We will meet in the Sawnee Mountain Preserve Spot Road parking lot. Look for the bronze Native American statue out front. We will gather under the front entrance to the Visitor's Center. From the visitor's center, we'll start on the Laurel Trail spur, take the Indian Seats trail clockwise stopping briefly at the "Indian Seats" observation deck, cut across the road at the Bettis Tribble Gap trailhead to take the Mountainside trail loop counter clockwise starting with the Hilltop Trail, then re-cross the road to complete the Indean Seats trail back to the Visitor's Center. Total hike should be right around 9 miles, with a surprising amount of elevation gain. This is not a beginner hike. We will be hiking on the faster side of Moderate, averaging at least 2.5 to 3.0 MPH with minimal stops.

Bring 1 liter of water.  We will fill water vessels at the Tribble Gap trailhead.

Dogs are not allowed at this park.

We are meeting at the Spot Road location: Do not go to the Bettis Tribble Gap location.
