Itinerary:

Before registering for this event: Please note that it is required that you have hiked a d5 successfully in the past 6 months, or 2 of the more difficult d4s.

This is going to be an adventure/explorer hike in which we will be hiking at a fast pace with a few short breaks to catch our breath and or snack.

FDR State Park is one of Georgia's largest state parks. It has more than 40 miles of trail which include the most popular 23-mile, Pine Mountain trail. This mountain region which is 80 miles Southwest of Atlanta which is above King's Gap is Dowdell's Knob which is historic. Dowdell's Knob is where President Franklin D. Roosevelt liked to picnic.

In the visitor's center in which we will begin our hike is a life-size statue of FDR. I have never been to this state park, and have looked forward to having an opportunity to visit the park for a while now. I hope that you will join me for this Sunday's adventure!

Additionally, the website about the park http://gastateparks.org/fdr-trails has a great deal of information on the trails. For this hike, I am planning to keep it simple and select the Pine Mountain Trail. The total distance for this section is 23 miles. However, we will only hike about 14 miles to include the blue blazed trail, connector loops (white trail), Mountain Creek Nature Trail, Dowdell Knob loop, Wolfden Loop,  Longleaf Loop with an expected elevation gain of 1300 + ft. in one direction and another 1300 on the way back.  Since the trail is 23 miles,  we will hike 7 miles in and turn around and hike 7 miles out. This way we will get plenty of miles, elevation, admire the trail's beauty, and enjoy the hike.

I have not been to this park before, so it will defintely be an adventure, lots of fun & an explorer hike!
