Itinerary:

Red Top Mountain State Park is located on 12,000-acre Lake Allatoona and was once an important mining area named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content.  More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park.

We will hike each of the trails in the the park including:

- Homestead Trail (5.5 miles)
- White Tail Trail (1 mile)
- Lakeside Trail (1 mile)
- Sweet Gum Trail (3.5 miles)
- Visitor Center Loop / Campground Trail (~1 mile)
- Iron Hill Trail (4 miles)

We plan to hike at a moderate pace and stop for lunch and to take photos along the way.

Although we will cover about 15 miles, there is very little elevation change on these trails compared to most D4 hikes.  Also, we will hike the 4-mile Iron Hill Trail last, so if you find that 15 miles is too many for you, you can complete the hike at 11 miles instead.
