Note: This is an "EXPLORATORY" trip. This means that there are parts of this trip, or perhaps the whole trip, that is new to your Trip Leader(s). However, they are confident that this will not be an issue.
This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Chunky Gal Mountain was named after a chubby Indian maid who fell in love with a young man from another tribe. Her parents atempted to snuff out the romance, but she persisted and abandoned her family, traveling across the mountain to be with the one she loved.

We'll be hiking the Chunky Gal Trail from Glade Gap up and over Chunky Gal Mountain to its intersection with the AT, then follow the AT south 1 mile to Muskrat Creek shelter and a nearby overlook.

From Glade Gap, elevation 3679', the trail climbs up and over Chunky Gal Mountain to a highpoint near 4800' while passing through areas of old growth forest.  At mile 5.1, the trail ends at Big Laurel on the AT.  We'll take a right turn on the AT and head south 1 mile to Muskrat Creek Shelter.  From there, we'll take a short side trail to an overlook where we'll have a short lunch break.  After the break, we'll return the same way.

Discalaimer:  I haven't hiked this section of trail before, but I'm familiar with the area and I don't anticipate any problems.  Parts of this trail were involved with the fires last fall, but I've spoken to the forest service, and they tell me the trail is in great shape.

Up to 3 well behaved dogs will be allowed on the trip.

In case of poor weather conditions, I'll postpone the event.
