Itinerary: | |||||||
Experienced Beginner (Class II) The Etowah River offers paddlers more challenging rapids, great scenery, good fishing, and a short portage around the 10-foot drop of spectacular Etowah Falls. Beautiful Mountain Laurel and Rhododendrons grace the banks of this small, fast moving stream that keeps your interest up around every bend. We recommend previous canoeing or Kayaking experience to fully enjoy the shoals on this moderately challenging trip. The Etowah is best in the spring and early summer, the water levels are higher and numerous wildflowers are in bloom. Etowah Falls makes an awesome picnic site! We will be canoeing 8 miles (about 3 ½ hours). Rugged and beautiful scenery and wildlife such as wood ducks, great blue heron, deer, otters, rainbow trout, silver spotted gar, osprey, red eye bass, and turtles. Highlights include numerous rapids, rock outcroppings, Etowah Falls, and lots of wildflowers! We may stop for a bite to eat afterwards. | |||||||
