Itinerary:

Calling all intermediate to advanced hikers for a fun Saturday early morning hike (or, if you prefer, trail run!)  Come enjoy hiking and getting back home early for more weekend fun. We will start at the Visitor Center trailhead and then take the AT Approach trail to Springer Mountain.

Following a short respite at Springer we will backtrack to the Len Foote Hike Inn cut-over trail. After another break at the Hike Inn, (maybe lunch?) we will take the Len Foote trail back to the visitors center.

Before you sign up for this hike, please make sure that you can hike the posted distance comfortably at a fast pace.  If you want to trail run, you'll probably finish ahead of the hikers and may have to wait a little while at the visitor's center.  We can coordinate hikers and runners at the Park & Ride and possibly avoid any delays. The Trip Leaders (TL's) will be bringing one dog, our young Lab, Kody.  One additional dog will be permitted, subject to prior approval.  Please contact the TL's if you sign-up and want to bring your dog.

Carpool Cost: Estimated cost per vehicle for this event is $38.40 using a reimbursement rate guideline of $0.400 per mile. The total amount should be divided by the number of people in the vehicle, including the driver. This is a guideline, not a rule, for drivers but the cost should not be higher unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Notes:

Sometimes, the Len Foote Inn will share coffee, tea, fruit and other leftovers as snacks for day hikers. If this privilege is available and you choose to take advantage of it, kindly bring cash to tip appropriately or donate.

Your trip leaders highly recommends to bring your lunch since the food at the Inn is not guaranteed!

* We encourage all members to follow our Etiquette Guidelines while participating in AOC events.

Cost Includes:

Approximate vehicle expense for this event is $38.40 (calculated at total miles (96) * $0.400, effective Tuesday, June 02, 2015). This is based on the current gas, maintenance, and other costs of $0.400 per mile as stated by the IRS & Cars.com. This should be divided by the total number of people in the vehicle (incl driver).
For example: With 4 people in the vehicle, the expense per person on this trip would be $9.60. Alternately your carpool driver may choose to split the maintenance cost plus the actual gas cost among all in the vehicle. Your carpool driver will confirm exactly how much money they require to cover costs. Please split the actual cost among all people in the vehicle.

Additional advice: The cost of your trip is up to your driver. Your cost should not be greater than what is listed above, unless there is extenuating circumstances. If you want to be sure about the cost of the trip, check with your driver before you get into the vehicle. If you are the driver of the vehicle, this is a guideline to what you charge and not a rule.

There is another $5.00 State Park Fee per car, unless you have an annual park pass.

Cancellation/Partial Attendance:   Please review the AOC cancellation policy.
