Itinerary:

The beautiful trails network in the "West Palisades" unit of the Chattahoochee River Nat'l Recreation Area has a convenient alternate parking lot and trailhead that's just a 5-minute drive from Cinco Mexican Cantina Since our AOC Social will be held there at Cinco from 5:00-7:00 PM this Sunday I've decided to offer this easy but very scenic hike (~5-miles, 2-hours) immediately following the social. We'll gather at the Cinco entrance at 7:00 for caravaning in our vehicles (via Akers Mill Road, Akers Drive and Akers Ridge Drive.  If you prefer, feel free to meet us at 7:15 PM at the trailhead, at 1927 Akers Ridge Drive.)

See Destination Address Info & Directions for both meetup options below.  For a zoomable Map & Satellite view of Cinco and its huge adjoining parklng lot click the above square blue & green "Event Location" icon

Since sunset isn't until 8:51 PM we'll have more than enough daylight and twilight to explore the Palisades' amazing variety of trails and terrain, including several scenic overlooks along "the Hooch" and its pretty tributary creeks.  We'll stop occasionally to observe and discuss the native flora & fauna - also visit several off-trail "hidden gems" including the stony ruins of an old homestead and a high ridge where the native Americans harvested "bloodroot" for medicinal purposes.  We'll take a break at the picturesque spotby the River where on most summer evening swimmers are plunging 20 feet into the River off the Palisades' legendary "Jumping Rock."   Feel free to take a dip here yourself if the spirit moves you!

CRNRA Parking:  The daily self-serve parking fee is $3.00 unless you display a valid annual National Park Service Annual Parking Pass.  You can purchase the Daily Pass (and also perhaps the Annual Pass) at a kiosk near the cars.  Click here for the Nat'l Park Service's CRNRA parking info: https://www.nps.gov/chat/planyourvisit/fees.htm
