Itinerary:

Please join us for a hike around Stone Mountain along the Cherokee Trail. We will meet adjacent to the restroom building at the beginning of the walk-up trail near the Confederate Hall parking lot. Please plan to arrive 10 minutes early to find a parking spot and for introductions. We will begin promptly at 8:00. Then we'll proceed counterclockwise and make hydration/comfort stops at the children’s playground and the grist mill. We will also pause at the trail intersections as necessary to allow the group to consolidate if we get spread out along the way. The pace will be moderate to fast, not a walk and not a fitness hike. We will average 2.5 mph with a pace up to 3.0 mph. The trail will vary from a well-worn forest path with plenty of roots to uneven granite.  If there has been recent rain, mud is likely in a few spots.

Due to the anticipated heat, you must have water with you.

A parking permit is $15 per day or $40 for an annual pass.  Free entry can be obtained via the PATH Foundation Trail along the railroad track from Stone Mountain Town to a point near the Nature Garden Trail. Then a short hike around to the Confederate Hall parking lot.  Allow an additional 15 minutes if you begin outside the park.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

Directions: www.stonemountainpark.com/directions

From I-285 to the East Gate:  From I-285, Exit 39A (form the South) or Exit 39B (from the North), take US HWY 78 Stone Mountain Freeway for 11 miles to Exit 8.  You will arrive at the Stone Mountain East Gatehouse.

East Gate to Confederate Hall:  Proceed from the entry gate to the end of Jefferson Davis Drive and bear right onto Robert E. Lee Boulevard.  After about a mile, and just past the West Gate, you will find Confederate Hall on your left.  The parking lot is just beyond and will have plenty of room on all but the busiest days. The walk-up trail begins just past the bathroom building at the end of the parking lot.  This is a regular meeting place for AOC events to the top or around the mountain.
