This is not a beginner/easy hike. Recent hiking experience on D5 hikes or equivalent is required. If you have done those hikes recently but they are not on your AOC profile, you must include a description of the hikes in the notes section when you sign up for this event.

This is an in-and-out hike with a total distance of about 13.5 miles and an estimated 3,700 feet of total elevation gain. The intent is to hike at a moderate pace with minimum stops at a couple of mountain views and to regroup if we have to.

We will start hiking around 8:15 - 8:30 am. We will start at Hogpen Gap and proceed west on the Appalachian Trail until we get to Neels Gap. After taking a break at Neels Gap, we will head back east on the same trail back to Hogpen Gap.

This is one of my favorite hikes. It has good views, challenging uphills, and a nice break location at Neels Gap. It is definitly worth doing, but only if you are physically ready for it.
