The hike in Sweetwater Creek will be a 7 mile loop on their ‘white, blue, and red’-- (historical trail). This is a good close to town workout which includes passing by a small lake, waterfall and cascades on Sweetwater Creek. Lastly the trail passes a Civil War mill ruins on the historical trail, then back through more wooded area to the parking lot. If we have a hardy group there is an extra two-mile ‘yellow trail’ that can be added to the hike depending on the groups wishes. Those that wish can then enjoy an early dinner at an inexpensive restaurant nearby.

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Atlanta, GA 11:30am – Sweetwater Creek State Park hiking trail parking lot Thornton Road park and ride lot is west of Atlanta off of I-20 outside of I-285 past Six Flags exit and located at exit number 44. When you get to the top of the exit, you must turn right and go about two blocks to the first traffic light, turn right onto N. Blairs Bridge Road travel to the top of that road and turn right and down into the parking lot. The park, if anyone insists on going there alone, is a left hand turn off of the exit over I-20 and about a ½ mile to the first light-Blairs Bridge Road (large car dealers mark the corner) where you will need to turn right. Follow this road a couple of miles to the Sweetwater Creek State Park sign (indicates left hand turn). Travel a couple more miles and into the park, over the Lake, and very briefly after passing the Lake look for a sign indicating hiking and other activities on road on the left hand side. The reason it will be better to meet at the park and ride lot is there is a per car fee to park in the State park parking area.
