Itinerary:

Unwind from the daily grind this evening with a hike on the scenic South Peachtree Creek Trail at Mason Mill and Medlock Park.

We will meet in front of the restrooms/playground at Mason Mill. Please arrive a few minutes early for checking in and introductions.

Since traffic in Atlanta is unpredicatable, and if you're already on your way, please call. The trail is pretty well-defined, so you can easily catch up with the group.

Beginners are welcome.

Small to medium sized and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

The South Peachtree Creek Trail was built by the Path Foundation. The concrete and elevated boardwalk trail meanders along and over the creek and has slight elevation changes. So, if like me, you'll be working all day, or if you're a beginner to hiking, this will be a moderately easy 5 mile hike -- starting with a quick mile around the perimeter of the park and the community garden, 2 miles along the new portion of the trail towards Druid Hills, and 2 miles on the original trail to Medlock Park.

More about the trail and parks:
Both parks are family and pet friendly. At Mason Mill, there's a senior center, picnic area, playground, tennis courts, and a community garden (where one of our Trip Leaders, Charlie Cottingham, has his own vegetable patch). And at Medlock Park, there are baseball fields, a swimming pool and playground.

Along the trail, there's an old stone bridge that crosses over Burnt Fork Creek. There are also little trails off the paved trail, one of which goes across the creek to Melton Park and the historic Decatur Waterworks. (We will not be taking these trails on this outing. But do be on the lookout for future hikes that will.)

How to Get There:
Event Directions:

The address for Mason Mill is

1340 McConnell Dr., Decatur, GA 30033

Or you can follow Charlie Cottingham's directions as noted:

1. From the I-85 "Clairmont Road" Exit (Exit #91) in NE Atlanta, take Clairmont Rd southward  ( toward Decatur)  about 2.3 miles to the  traffic light at McConnell Drive.  (This is the next light south of the big Clairmont/ North Druid Hills intersection.  If you reach the huge VA Hospital, you've gone a couple of blocks too far!)

2. Turn Left onto McConnell Drive, go just 0.1 mile, and turn Right at the stop sign to stay on McConnell.
(Note the small "Mason Mill" directional sign here.)

3. Then turn Left almost immediately at the
"Mason Mill Park"  entrance sign into the large free parking lot.  We'll  gather by the stone Restroom building  near that main entrance adjoining the children's playground.
