Itinerary:

Let's explore the Central Section of Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park.  For this hike we will NOT be hiking the mountain itself but instead focus on trails south of Burnt Hickory Road.  Most of our trek will be under tree cover which should help shield us from some of the Summer heat.

We will meet at the Burnt Hickory Road parking lot near the kiosk at the top of the lot. Please arrive a few minutes early to allow us to depart at 9:30 am sharp.  Note there are no bathrooms at this parking lot so plan accordingly.  Parking is free at Kennesaw Mountain NBP.

We will head South out the Hardage Mill Trail which forms the western side of our loop.  We will cross the Noses Creek bridge and finish the Hardage Mill trail as we reach Dallas Highway at about 2.2 miles.  We will then take the Noses Creek trail North, once again crossing the Noses Creek bridge. Shortly after the bridge we will divert onto the New Salem Church Trail until we reach Burnt Hickory Road.  Crossing the road, we will do a small loop utilizing the Camp Brumby, Little Kennesaw Cutoff and finally Pigeon Hill Trail and the parking lot.  (Note: the last bit of our hike across and down Pigeon Hill is rocky and the tread is challenging so hiking poles would be helpful if you use them).

As we hike, we will pass several miles of trenches and artillery batteries that are reminders of the 1864 battle of Kennesaw Mountain.  Lots of history all around.  We may also see some of the local wildlife including deer which I rarely fail to see when hiking at Kennesaw.
