Itinerary:

This is an in-and-out hike of about 10 miles and 2600 ft of elevation gain. From Andrew’s Cove campground, we hike uphill along a stream for 1 hour to Indian Grave Gap and from there continue uphill on the AT for another 1.5 hours to the secret overlook beyond the summit of Tray Mountain.

Irma did quite a number on the lower section of the blue sidetrail between Andrew's Cove and Indian Grave Gap on the AT, blowing down a wide swath of magnificent oaks and completely obliterating the trail. Presumably the same firefighters who are currently battling the flames in California were brought in to clear away the big trees. Very impressive.

As the campground is closed for the season, we will park on the side of the road opposite to the campground entrance just before the hairpin turn.

Ann will co-ordinate the carpool from the park-and-ride. Anyone "meeting at event" should be at the Cleveland Ingles at about 9:50. We plan to have supper at the Mexican restaurant in Cleveland after the hike. If you do not wish to stay, please carpool with like-minded hikers or drive on your own to Ingles and join the carpool there.
