Itinerary:

If you love hiking the Chattahoochee National Recreation Areas and you have MLK Day off work, this hike may be for you.

Read all of this, this is not your usual CNRA hike.

We are going to hike 4 different CNRA parks all in 1 day.  We’ll meet in the North River Tavern parking lot for the carpool.  From there we’ll head to Island Ford for about 5 miles of hiking, taking in a little waterfall, lots of beech trees, and the cave along the way. Next we’ll go to Gold Branch and put in another 3 miles.  Of course we’ll check on the remains of the Studebaker we all associate with Gold Branch. We'll also enjoy a lunch break (bring your own lunch) at Gold Branch. Now we are halfway.  Next up is Cochran Shoals/Sope Creek.  Our approach will be from the Columns Drive entrance.  We’ll pay our respects at the old Scribner family cemetery and then loop past the ruins.  This will be another 5 miles.  The penultimate leg of the day will be at East Palisades.  We’ll park at the Indian Trail entrance lot.  From there we’ll wind our way around to the scenic overlook and back to the parking lot, logging another 3 miles of hiking.  The final leg of our adventure will take us back to the North River Tavern parking lot.

Overall we’ll hike in 4 of our favorite CNRA parks, logging about 16 miles.  Quite a day!

Your Trip Leaders plan to enjoy dinner - and toast the realization of our dream - at North River Tavern immediately following the event. All are welcome to join us.

This event is exploratory.  Most all of us have hiked in these parks, but we’ll be doing some adjusting of our routes depending on time and mileage.  In addition, we'll be commuting between parks and this is Atlanta, enough said.  Everyone on this hike will have to be flexible in terms of the mileage covered and the timing of hikes.

As mentioned, we'll be carpooling between the parks.  Lisa and Mike will drive, but we will need 1 more driver to accomodate all 12 of us.  If you are willing to drive, please indicate so, in the notes section, when you register for the event.

This is an all-day event comprising four CNRA parks. We will travel together between parks. Please do not sign up unless you intend to complete the entire event.

This is not a beginner hike. If you have not recently completed a D4 AOC event, the Trip Leaders may contact you to determine your suitability for this hike.
