This note is here so that you can make an informed decision. When a Trip Leader isn't personally familiar with a trip, there is an increased chance of things not going as planned and you need to be prepared. The Trip Leader may have additional details in the itinerary.

Itinerary:

Come join us for 2 days of snowshoeing in the Salt Lake City area of Utah - in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains!

(We will likely have room for 10 people on this event.  Everyone who registers will be put on the waitlist for approval.)

The "official event" will start on Friday February 23rd. You must arrive at the SLC Airport by 6pm for a shuttle to pick up our snowshoes before heading to our house. The "official event" will end on Sunday afternoon February 25th at 4pm at the SLC Airport.

We will be wearing snowshoes and treking 6-7 miles each day and around 2500 elevation gain on one and 2900 on the other.  We will NOT go at a fast pace and we will take our time and stay together as a group.  ENDURANCE is what's needed here, NOT SPEED.

For the unofficial after-event: We'll be staying in the SLC area through Friday. Wynn will have meetings on Monday and Tuesday and then snow skiing on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday before returning home. We'll help with group accomodations for all those wanting to stay more days. We will decide as a group where to ski - there are several great options in the area. And you certainly have the option of doing your own thing during those days and we can still share accomodations. We will NOT have trouble finding a reasonable spot for all those wanting to stay more days.

Saturday morning we'll head to the mountains.
Sunday morning we'll head to the mountains.
Sunday afternoon we'll head to the airport or continue our stay in SLC - depending on what you choose to do.

Detailed items for the days of the official event:

- Group transportation is included for Friday night thru Sunday.
- Everyone will have their own bed in our accomodations.
- We have a house reserved for our stay.
- We will (likely) wake early Saturday and Sunday mornings for possible sunrise viewing. (There's a 2 hour time difference so this should be easy.) We'll watch the weather and try to squeeze the best out of each day. That means you must be flexible - if not, your trip leader will certainly disappoint you.

Your responsibilities:

- Arrange your travel and arrive in SLC by 6pm Friday.

- Arrange your travel from SLC no earlier than 4pm Sunday (or join the planning for those staying after the official event.) Some might even choose to fly back on Monday instead of Sunday. We will help coordinate that if you notify us at the time of sign-up.

- Snowshoe rental is NOT included in the cost for this event. Rentals are $25 for the snowshoes and $15 if you want to rent boots as well. Poles are $6 or you can usually buy powder baskets for your hiking poles and bring your own. Obviously you can bring your own boots and showshoes as well if you want.

- You are responsible for all of your gear and you must be prepared for snow, ice and temperatures well below freezing. The mountains are a dangerous place in the winter. If you're not sure about the correct clothing, etc you must seek advice from your trip leaders WELL BEFORE the event - to make sure everyone is prepared.

Trails we will cover:

- Grandeur Peak  https://goo.gl/maps/pTik89XQF EP2

- Lake Blanche Trail  https://goo.gl/maps/PrzJ13eDqf G2

- We'll get more trails and sites in depending on weather conditions.

If the conditions aren't right for snowshoeing: Assuming hiking is a better option, we'll plan to hike instead. No matter what, we will have an adventure, so be flexible and enjoy the fun.

Any registrant who does not have a recent resume of D4 hikes in the AOC likely will not be placed on the event list unless the registrant can demonstrate to the TLs an appropriate fitness and experience level gained outside the Club.  The TLs also reserve the right to consider any registrant’s social history within the AOC and to make the final determination as to whether the registrant is an appropriate candidate for this event.

Email Wynn if you have any questions.
